How to hit pause and win big
Some ideas to reflect upon from 2021
This year is over. And whether you’ve had a normal year (which I doubt), or like me, a strange one, it’s time to pause for reflection.
Here are some short ideas to reflect upon from 2021.
I worked so hard almost every single day of this year. As a result, I must be proud, but sometimes I catch myself not being very satisfied with my achievements. Why is that?
I think it’s hard to be satisfied nowadays. It’s difficult to stay true to yourself and commit to a slow, steady journey when everything seems to be all about hype and winning as quickly as possible. Is the solution to develop better judgment? Yes, that’s true, but being kind to ourselves is just as important. We are not living under normal conditions, so if we sometimes doubt our abilities or the path we are on, that is totally OKAY.
The right thing
In a world of uncertainty, I tried to fight harder and take more risks, and I guess that’s how I managed to keep my balance! But that is not what you want your competitive edge to be! I want a pause to find out what is the right thing for me and to push on that harder and eliminate other things. The hardest part of a creative journey is not how to achieve, but what to achieve.
As Naval says:
The universe is rigged in such a way that if you just want one thing, and you focus on that, you will get it. But everything else, you got to let go.
Let’s say I defined my right thing; now it’s time to experiment. What really gave me the confidence to do it is part of the book “How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big” by the cartoonist, Scot Adams. He describes the plan and system that helped him land on his idea for the well-known cartoon series, Dilbert:
The idea was to create something that had value and I wanted the product to be something that was easy to reproduce in unlimited quantities… I would try one thing after another until something creative struck a chord with the public. Then I would reproduce it like crazy.
I’m so so grateful that you are following my journey. This newsletter and the commitment to deliver value every week is one of the sweetest things from 2021. Thanks for your support, kind emails, and critical feedback along the way.
Wishing all of you a crazy, experimental, and meaningful year ahead.
